Netto Proposal
As most of you will by now be aware, the
supermarket we were promised over twenty years ago, and
which many of us had given up hope of ever seeing, could
finally be soon to get the go-ahead.
Danish owned grocery chain "Netto"
have submitted plans for a brand new store to be built
on the derelict land adjacent to Station Road. Subject
to a council planning application, the new store could
be operational by May 2008.
Martin Collier, of the Leeds based company
WPL Design & Management, was kind enough to send me
the plans they had drawn up for the proposed development.

Update
September 2007
Last month a group of contracters visited
the site to bore holes and take soil samples. They told
me that everything looked good as far as the foundations
were concerned.
A petition of hundreds of signatures showing
local support for the project was handed in to the planning
office and was gratefully received. I have been told to
pass on thanks to all who gave their support.
On September 3rd 2007 more contractors arrived,
this time to clean up the site and remove the knotweed
infestation which has been in evidence on that bit of
land for many years. The contractors plan to be there
for about three or four weeks, during which time they
will be digging a couple of large and very deep holes
at either end of the site, into which rubble etc. will
be buried. I'm told that a huge pile of earth will be
in evidence between the holes until such time as they
are filled in.
While this work is taking place the site will be fenced
off for public safety, but for anyone who is concerned
about their right to use the public footpaths which cross
the land, the paths will be open for access again as soon
as it safe to do so.
The final decision on the planning application
will take place at the end of this month, but apart from
one or two possible minor quibbles, everything should
be given the go-ahead before October. If this is indeed
the case, work on the new store will begin almost immediately
and it is hoped that completion will be achieved and the
new store opened to the public before Easter 2008.
Update
October 15th 2007
Prior to the hearing planned for the end
of September 2007 the plans were withdrawn after Doncaster
planning officers asked for certain changes to be made
regarding the siting of the condensors for the air conditioning
units. These were deemed to be too close to the dwellings
at the rear of the site.
In the second week of October 2007 the amended plans were
re-submitted. WPL Design & Management LTD have graciously
sent us copies of the new plans to put on this site. These
show the building position has been moved away from the
rear boundary and a reduction in building height at the
rear.
Objections to the proposals are required to be submitted
before 8th November, so barring any further problems the
new plans could be accepted at a hearing around the second
week in November.

We have been informed that the planned construction
of the new Netto store will begin before the end of this
